Is Your USAID Spending Allowable?

Is Your USAID Spending Allowable?

This workshop is available as an English Online workshop and an English In-person workshop.

In this workshop, you will gain the knowledge and practical skills to ensure your organization remains USAID compliant, as well as avoiding audit findings and loss of funding.

We will share with you the key cost principles of spending while remaining USAID compliant and help you explore the basics of ensuring a cost is allowable, reasonable, and allocable – and how to use those core principles as reference for your own spending.

On successful completion of this workshop, you can return to your organization able to determine if an item of cost is allowable, reasonable, and eligible to be charged to your project. You will also be able to research and determine when prior approval is required.

By the end of this workshop, learners will be able to:

  • Explain the core principles of USAID spending
  • Know what USAID spending can be allocated to your budget
  • How to document USAID spending that is compliant
  • Know which costs require prior approval
  • Describe what happens if you spend on something that is not allowed
  • How to do your own research on what USAID spending is allowed

Who should attend?

This workshop is designed for:

  • Staff working on USAID funded projects, specifically for program staff making financial transactions; Country Directors in control of the budget, who have no previously studied compliance

Learning Approach

In-person Workshop: Humentum’s highly practical workshops always put the learner first. Our expert facilitators will draw on their own vast sector and subject-specific knowledge to ensure our learner experience is as worthwhile and enjoyable as possible. They will share relevant tools, techniques and insights that are immediately transferrable to your own work. You are also actively encouraged to engage in meaningful discussions, hands-on group work, and pose your own specific questions to further enhance your learning.

Online Workshop: Humentum’s self-directed and focused online workshops always put the learner first. You will have the opportunity to connect and engage with peers from around the world in a social network style environment, whilst working through a series of engaging videos, assignments and readings. You will have a dedicated, expert facilitator to guide you on your learning journey, and always ready to answer your specific questions to further enhance your learning.

How does an online workshop work?

The online workshop is open for a set number of weeks, and you can log-in at any time that suits you, and work at your own pace. Once online, you’ll find our platform easy to navigate, with clear guides and instructions.

You’ll need to earn points for completing various tasks (such as watching videos, uploading assignments, and interacting with others). The more tasks you complete, the more points you’ll earn. The quicker you earn these points, the sooner you’ll be able to complete the workshop!

We estimate this online workshop requires up to 1 hour per module (3 modules in total), depending on your pace of learning, and previous experience.
