This online course will equip you with the practical tools, resources, and guidance needed to plan and submit quality proposals to USAID.  The activities and resources will help you understand USAID as an awarding agency, manage the proposal process, and overcome budget development challenges.

An eWorkshop is the online equivalent of being in a training room and learning together as a group but stretched out over a few weeks.  

Week 1 

Prepositioning: know your client (and your fellow participants)

  • Introductions and getting to know the eLearning site
  • Whole group icebreaker activities
  • Introduction to proposal development

Week 2 

Prepositioning: assess, network, anticipate

  • A closer look at assessing, networking, and anticipating
  • Team activity – support prepositioning for three fictional NGOs
  • Individual activity – conduct prepositioning research for your organization

Week 3 

Prepositioning: the capture plan

  • Effectively responding to USAID award solicitations
  • Team activity – develop a capture plan for one of the fictional NGOs
  • Individual activity – practice reading an RFA

Week 4 

Proposal development: kicking off 

  • Determining fair market value
  • Identifying “fixed items” for the budget
  • Preparing budgets for assistance applications
  • Team activity 1 - develop a 30-day proposal calendar
  • Team activity 2 - review a technical proposal

Week 5 

Proposal development: constructing the budget 

  • How to develop the budget
  • Team activity – develop the budget for assigned categories

Week 6 

Proposal development: the budget narrative

  • Budget narrative best practices
  • Team activity – write pieces of the budget narrative
  • Individual activity – critique a budget narrative

Week 7 

Proposal development: review and reflection
