This online course will equip you with background, tools, and practice to support budget development and cost proposal negotiations with the US Government.

The activities and resources will help you to develop a category-based budget from an activity budget, practice formatting a budget according to Federal Standard Form 424, and discuss strategies to justify Cost Proposals to the USG.

This is a companion course to the USAID Proposal Development eWorkshop.

This course is designed for:

  • Program staff, especially those program staff that are potential budget holders
  • Finance, grants, and contracts staff who play a role in proposal writing or review
  • Business development staff
  • Administrative staff who are interested in supporting the proposal writing process

An eWorkshop is the online equivalent of being in a training room and learning together as a group, but stretched out over a few weeks. The learning resources include interactive lessons, readings, videos, individual and team tasks, and a practical course assignment.

There are no ‘real time’ sessions so you can study at a time that suits you, within the set module weeks. The course requires a time commitment of around 6 to 10 hours every week.
