Project Finance Essentials

This workshop is available as an In-person English workshop and In-person French workshop.

This highly participatory workshop aims to build the confidence and skills of field based project staff to use financial management tools and to implement project activities in a cost effective, controlled, and accountable way.

Our expert facilitators will guide you through the workshop, sharing tools and techniques and getting you to put the learning into practice with relevant activities. You’ll explore the essentials of the four building blocks of financial management: Financial Planning, Accounting, Financial Reporting, and Internal Controls.

The learning will be consolidated at the end of the workshop, and you can return to your organization armed with useful tools, tips and templates ready to use in your own work.

What will you learn?

By the end of this workshop, learners will be able to:

  • Apply key policies and procedures needed to safeguard project cash and equipment
  • Describe the seven principles and four building blocks of financial management to ensure robust practice in project systems
  • Describe the key organizing tools of a financial system including the Chart of Accounts and Cost Centers, and they key accounting records you need to keep for accountable and transparent projects
  • Create an accurate and complete project budget using the activity-based budgeting technique
  • Analyze financial statements to assess the financial health of partner NGOs

Who should attend?

This workshop is designed for:

  • Non-finance project staff in International NGOs who manage or directly implement projects in the field.

This workshop is not suitable for:

  • Finance staff, or local NGO project staff.
