Description

PHI is seeking an experienced and talented senior professional to develop and lead a comprehensive strategy that attracts and engages philanthropic, corporate, and association partners in the global health sector in alignment with the Sustaining Technical and Analytical Resources (STAR) project goals. The STAR project is a five-year cooperative agreement implemented and managed by the Public Health Institute in partnership with John Hopkins University, the University of California San Francisco and the Consortium of Universities in Global Health. STAR seeks to strengthen the technical and analytic professional cadre of human resources for global health through placing fellows and interns in external institutions and also within USAID, primarily in partnerships with institutions of higher learning, development research organizations, and health professional associations and philanthropies. STAR will improve the effectiveness of global health programs worldwide by developing and strengthening the capacity of global health professionals around the world. Leveraging the expertise, resources, and partnerships of academic institutions and the private sector, STAR will also contribute to building the capacity of institutions that provide technical leadership in low and middle income countries and to improving systems that promote technical collaboration across the global health community. The Director of Private Sector Partnership Development will play an important role in identifying and researching major prospects and will support all aspects of the private sector partnership program, including oversight and accountability for cost sharing obligations. The right candidate will have a proven track record of helping to build and manage public/private and donor partnerships with skill, energy and innovation. Responsibilities

As a the Director of Private Sector Partnership Development you will:

  • Lead partnership planning, development, obligation and implementation of activities.
  • Responsible for identifying opportunities to engage private sector partners and programs in order to leverage their core capabilities and resources to advance shared goals in the Global Health sector.
  • Directly serve as a relationship manager with strategic partners, i.e. corporations, financial institutions, or major foundations. Set shared strategic priorities between STAR and the partner; identify new engagement opportunities with the partner; manage ongoing partnerships and alliances; monitor and assess the results of existing joint activities; manage joint communications and engagement opportunities.
  • Generate interest with strategic partners in the creation of specialized Global Health Fellowships that serve the project’s goals and objectives to build targeted capacity.
  • Generate interest with strategic partners in the support – both monetary and in-kind – of various aspects of the STAR fellowship and internship program.
  • Coordinate activities with all other project teams.
  • Oversee systems and software to accurately track partnerships and prospects through identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  • Oversee the tracking and reporting of all cost share obligations, including the coordination of partner contributions to cost share; keep Project Director fully informed of cost share status.
  • Prepare written materials including visit goals, strategies/briefings, correspondence, solicitation proposals, pledge documents and gift acknowledgements.
  • Write proposals, stewardship reports and creative, personal communications.
  • Manage and supervise staff on the private sector partnership development team.
  • Work closely with communications team to prepare case studies and examples of impact.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Our ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred;
  • Minimum ten years successful experience in public, private, and/or global health focused partnership development – identifying prospects and participating in the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors. Proven history of managing partnerships of at least $100,000 (individual or corporate) required;
  • At least seven years of management experience;
  • A comprehensive understanding of and experience with philanthropy, corporate social responsibility, fundraising and communications;
  • The ability to conceptualize, plan and implement a strategic approach to building relationships and securing philanthropic support: setting realistic goals, developing strategies for prospective partners, prioritizing activities, soliciting gifts, and orchestrating the involvement of volunteers and senior leadership;
  • Experience in the global health, global CSR, and/or public health sectors;
  • Understanding of cost sharing principles with US government cooperative agreements;
  • Proven experience using technology to advance the goals of a major donor program, like donor tracking systems and prospect research and wealth screening tools, along with a willingness and capacity to learn new systems;
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks at a time;
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, strategic thinking, commitment to results, attention to detail, and solutions-oriented;
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment across multiple programs and departments;
  • Experience working and/or living in a developing country preferred
  • US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency required.
