InsideNGO Announces 2016 Excellence Award Winners at Annual Conference: Achieving Global Impact

WASHINGTON – Humentum is pleased to announce the winners of its annual Excellence Awards, recognizing individuals in the international development and relief sector who are making outstanding contributions to their organizations. The Excellence Awards were bestowed last evening during Humentum’s annual conference, Achieving Global Impact, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, to the following highly accomplished practitioners:

  • Line Kewe, Finance Manager at Literacy Bridge in Seattle, WA, (tie) and the Program Systems Unit at Pathfinder International in Watertown, MA, for Excellence in Cross Operations
  • Dr. Si Thura, Myanmar Country Director at Community Partners International in Yangon, Myanmar, recognized with the Emerging Leader Award
  • Elizabeth Atherton, Finance Director at Nuru International in Irvine, CA, for Excellence in Finance
  • Kenneth Repp, VP, Director of International Office of Sponsored Programs at Education Development Center (EDC) in Waltham, MA, for Excellence in Grants & Contracts
  • Bonnie Karns, Director of HR at International City/County Management Association (ICMA) in Washington, DC, for Excellence in Human Resources
  • Samir Souidi, Enterprise Systems/Software Architect at Population Council in New York, NY, for Excellence in Information Technology

"Humentum recognizes the value that strong operational units bring to mission-driven NGOs," said President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Dente of Humentum. "Through their dedication, a spirit of innovation, and commitment to excellence, these professionals are contributing to the shared mission of achieving global impact in addressing the world’s most pressing social issues. We are delighted to be able to honor them this evening."

The Humentum Excellence Awards were established in 2010. This year’s winners were chosen from a field of 50 nominations submitted by Humentum member organizations earlier this year. Nominators were asked to submit a detailed recommendation explaining how their colleagues embodied operational excellence. The following individuals and organizations were cited as honorable mentions:

Nearly 1,100 development practitioners from 198 different organizations are attending Humentum’s annual conference this year, making it one of the largest gatherings of professionals in the relief and development community.


Humentum is a membership association of 330 international non-governmental organizations and sector experts in the international development and relief community working together to achieve global impact. We provide training and learning opportunities, peer-to-peer exchange, sector expertise, and links to industry partners to help our members build their operational and management capacity.
